Schoesler confident Legislature satisfied McCleary with bipartisan plan to fully fund basic education

OLYMPIA…Senate Majority Leader Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, issued the following statement in response to today’s Washington State Supreme Court hearing regarding the Legislature’s plan to fully fund basic education.

At question is whether or not the plan satisfies the order of the court in the McCleary decision.

“This past year, the Legislature made a strong bipartisan effort to meet our paramount duty to fully fund basic education in Washington. We did our due diligence and addressed the biggest piece of the puzzle – the sustainability and equability of the funding mechanism for our schools.

“While I’m confident we satisfied the constitutional mandate, we hope to know the court’s decision from today’s hearing before the beginning of the 2018 session.”
